Four Site Skinfold Bodyfat Calculator
Measuring your bodyfat using calipers provide a value that is only accurate to plus/minus about 4%. Even hydrostatic weighing is only accurate to within 2-3%.
Does it really matter what the exact percentage of bodyfat equals? Not really. Use the sum of the pinches to monitor your progress.
The sum of the pinches will give you a representation of your subcutaneous bodyfat. If you begin a diet and track both your weight and your skinfold measurements,
you will know whether you are on a good trend or otherwise.
Note: the equation used for the bodyfat calcualtion on this page were taken from ACSM reference materials. It is important to understand that there are literally hundreds of
equations out there that provide a wide range of results. The reason for the great variation is because the bodyfat is a calculated value and based on sample populations.
There is no way to be certain the calculation is precise. There are a number of variables you can control, however. Be sure the person taking the measurements is
trained in the proper technique and that they apply the technique consistently. I would even recommend taking the measruements at the same time of the day each time.
Any variability in the technique applied can have a profound effect on the calculation. If the measurement is off even a few millimeters, you will not be able to see
the change in your measurements from one week to the next.
